COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES
The College of Humanities, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji, is one of the pioneer Colleges at the inception of the University in 2006. It started with 18 lecturers and 15 students with Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze Onukaogu, an Associate Professor of English, becoming its first Acting Dean.
The College seeks to produce a new breed of graduates who through sound and apt understanding of our religion, history, language, and literature will be empowered with sound character and the drive to respect the sanctity of human life. Besides, it envisages to produce seasoned women and men who will continue to give service to humanity in order to promote inter/intra cultural harmony among humans irrespective of their diversity.
It has for now five programmes. These are B.A. English Language, B.A. Literature in English, B.A. Philosophy, B.A. Religious Studies and B.A. Ministerial Studies. The College is charged with implementing the University-Wide Communication skills in English-Use of English program. In order to produce first rate manpower who can effectively give and receive information in English, the College makes the use of diverse, robust and vibrant literature an integral part of the Use of English programmes. Besides, the College organizes the Use of English programmes with the intensity, seriousness and sensitivity that the course of such national importance demands in such a way that every student who takes it must be a successful and strategic reader and writer. Thus the written text enthralls and does not intimidate them. They love and choose to read and write extensively long after they have completed the programmes.
The College library boasts of a collection of diverse kinds of books selected to meet the various interests of the vast majority of students and staff who use it. Thus apart from holding a collection of books in English Language, Literature, Philosophy and Religion, the library is the first port of call for all who have the interest and zeal to extend their vision, horizon and experiences through extensive and intensive reading.
Our vision as a College is to produce a new breed of graduates who through sound and apt understanding of our religion, history, language and literature will be empowered with sound character and respect for the sanctity of the life of our people. Besides, they will also have a continued desire to give service to humanity in order to promote inter/intra cultural harmony among our diverse people.
