Department of Animal Science

History

The department is as old as the university itself. It was established as one of the foundation departments of the university at its inception in 2006. The department started with six lecturers and twelve students. Professor A.A. Ologun became the first Head of the Department from 23 October 2006 until 2014, followed by Dr E.K Asaniyan, 2014 – 2016, and Dr Rotimi Olajide, 2016 – 2018. The department is set out to produce very sound, well-articulated graduates who will be job creators and employers of labourers. Furthermore, the department seeks:

  1. To develop programmes covering the broad areas of animal science.
  2. To turn out production-oriented graduates in agriculture, using a hands-on approach to train the graduates.
  3. To train personnel capable of teaching and conducting relevant research in the science of animal welfare and also capable of taking up employment anywhere in Nigeria and any aspect of animal science and production.
  4. To produce graduates who will profitably put their skills into operation by establishing and operating their farming enterprises and consultation services.
