College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS)

Prof B.B. Omoniyi

Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences

History

The College of Social Sciences was established in 2006 as part of the College of Social and Management Sciences. In 2013 it was separated from Management Sciences and became the independent College of Social Sciences. However, in 2017, it was merged with the College of Humanities, forming what is now known as the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. The college upholds the university’s motto: for knowledge and godly Service.

The leadership of the college has been instrumental in its growth and development. The first Acting Dean, Dr. S.A. Olaiyan, served from 2013 to 2015, followed by Prof. A.O. Olaleye from 2015 to 2017. Dr. L.A. Afinotan then led from 2017 to 2020. In 2021, Prof. T.A. Adaja was appointed Dean, serving until 2024, after which Prof. B.B. Omoniyi took over in October 2024 and continues to lead the College.

Over the years, the College has expanded its academic offerings, with all departments running postgraduate programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This strong foundation, laid by past leaders, continues to shape the College’s commitment to academic excellence and societal impact.
