Security Unit
About
The Security Unit at Joseph Ayo Babalola University is dedicated to safeguarding the well‑being of our entire campus community. Guided by a clear mission—to protect life and property, prevent criminal activity, and foster a culture of vigilance—we employ a blend of professional personnel, modern technology, and strategic partnerships. From 24/7 patrol teams and state‑of‑the‑art surveillance systems to regular training programs and community outreach, our unit works proactively to anticipate and mitigate risks. By collaborating closely with local law enforcement, emergency services, and student union executives, we ensure that every member of JABU—students, staff, and visitors—can pursue academic and personal growth in an environment of confidence and peace of mind.
Mission
1. Comprehensive Risk Management
- Conduct regular campus-wide security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Develop and maintain a dynamic risk register to identify, evaluate, and prioritise potential threats.
2. Community Engagement & Empowerment
- Empower students, staff, and visitors with practical security knowledge through tailored workshops, e-learning modules, and tabletop exercises.
- Establish a Campus Watch Ambassadors program, enlisting volunteers from across the university to act as eyes and ears, reporting concerns in real time.
3. Strategic Partnerships
- Formalise Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Osun State Police Command, fire services, and medical emergency response teams to ensure seamless coordination during incidents.
- Participate in regional security forums and inter-university drills to share best practices and lessons learned.
Vision
We aspire to make JABU the benchmark for integrated campus security in Nigerian higher education. By weaving security protocols into daily life—from lecture halls to residential quarters—we aim to:
-
Cultivate an environment where every member of our community feels personally responsible for and confident in their safety.
-
Leverage cutting‑edge security technologies (e.g., AI‑enabled CCTV analytics, mobile panic-button apps) alongside human vigilance.
-
Build institutional resilience, so that disruptions—whether natural, accidental, or malicious—are swiftly contained and normal operations restored with minimal impact on teaching, learning, and research.
Core Values
-
Professionalism: Upholding the highest standards of conduct, integrity, and accountability.
-
Proactivity: Anticipating and preventing threats rather than simply reacting to them.
-
Collaboration: Working hand‑in‑hand with every stakeholder—students, staff, contractors, and external agencies.
-
Transparency: Communicating security policies, incident reports, and performance metrics openly to build trust.

3. Emergency Evacuation:
- Floor wardens conduct quarterly drills; evacuation maps are posted at every exit.
4. Lost & Found Property:
- Items logged, stored securely for 90 days, then transferred to the university archive or disposed of per policy.
Introduction
At Joseph Ayo Babalola University, the Security Unit serves as the foundational bedrock upon which our academic community thrives. In an era marked by rapidly changing safety dynamics—ranging from campus-based incidents to broader regional challenges—our unit remains steadfast in its commitment to creating an environment where scholarship, creativity, and personal growth can flourish without fear or distraction. We recognise that security is not merely a set of rules or a visible presence of uniformed officers; rather, it is a holistic ecosystem of policies, people, processes, and technologies, all working in harmony to anticipate, prevent, and respond to threats.
Central to our approach is the seamless integration of security into every aspect of campus life. From the moment you enter through our controlled-access gates to the time you leave the grounds, you’ll benefit from layered safeguards: AI-enhanced CCTV networks that flag anomalies in real time; 24/7 roving patrol teams trained in conflict de-escalation; and an intuitive mobile app that empowers you to request assistance, report concerns, or receive critical alerts. Behind these capabilities stands a dedicated cadre of professionals—each rigorously trained in emergency response, first aid, human-rights compliant search procedures, and customer-focused interaction—who balance vigilance with approachability.
But technology and tactics alone do not define our success. Equally important is fostering a culture of shared responsibility, where students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to become active partners in campus safety. Through regular security briefings in departmental meetings, Scenario-Based Learning workshops, and our Campus Watch Ambassadors program, we build collective awareness of best practices: from recognising unusual behaviour to executing evacuation plans. This blend of top-down leadership and grassroots engagement creates a resilient community capable of responding swiftly and cohesively to any challenge.
Finally, our commitment extends beyond university boundaries. By maintaining formal partnerships with the Osun State Police Command, fire and medical emergency services, and neighbouring institutions, we ensure that JABU is both well-prepared for large-scale emergencies and plugged into the latest regional security developments. These collaborations enable joint exercises, shared intelligence, and coordinated responses—amplifying our readiness and reinforcing our promise: to safeguard every member of the JABU family, protect our irreplaceable academic assets, and sustain an atmosphere where learning and innovation can thrive without compromise.
