COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES

The college of humanities is one of the pioneer colleges at the inception of the university in 2006. It started with 18 lecturers and 15 students and Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze Onukaogu, an Associate Professor of English, as its first acting dean.

The college seeks to produce a new breed of graduates who through sound and apt understanding of our religion, history, language, and literature will be empowered with sound character and the drive to respect the sanctity of human life. Besides, it envisages to produce seasoned women and men who will continue to give service to humanity in order to promote inter/intra cultural harmony among humans irrespective of their cultural diversities.

The college is charged with implementing the university-wide communication skills in Use of English programmes. In order to produce first rate manpower who can effectively give and receive information in english. The college makes use of diverse, robust and vibrant literature an integral part of the Use of English programmes.

The college also organises the Use of English programmes with intensity, seriousness and sensitivity  such that its students become successful and strategic readers and writers. Thus, the written text enthralls and does not intimidate them. They love and choose to read and write extensively long after they have completed the programmes.

Its library boasts of a collection of diverse kinds of books selected to meet the various needs of students and staff who use it.

1. A minimum of 5 O level credit or its equivalence in English and any other four subjects in Arts and or Social Sciences subjects is required for admission for prospective candidates of the college of humanities.

2. A minimum of 5 O level credit or its equivalence in English and any other four subjects which must include Literature in English is required for prospective English (Bachelor of Arts) candidates.

3. A minimum of 5 O level credit or its equivalence in English and any other four subjects which must include Government or History is required for prospective History and International Studies (Bachelor of Arts) candidates.

Our vision as a college is to produce a new breed of graduates who through sound and apt understanding of our religion, history, language and literature will be empowered with sound character and respect for the sanctity of life. Besides, they will also have a continued desire to give service to humanity in order to promote inter/intra cultural harmony.
