Introduction

Personnel is JABU’s central human resources hub dedicated to recruiting, developing, supporting, and retaining the people who make our academic and administrative mission possible. The Deputy Registrar heads it. Personnel provides staffing, policy, training and employee-welfare services across JABU. We aim to combine best-practice human resource processes with a caring, transparent culture so every staff member can perform, innovate and grow.

Vacancy announcement
Vacancies are advertised on the JABU careers page with clear application instructions.

Application & Shortlisting
Applications screened; eligible candidates shortlisted and invited for assessment/interview.

Interviews & Selection
Selection panels convene and record decisions using standard scoring rubrics.

Offer & Onboarding
Successful candidates receive conditional offer letters, complete required forms and begin digital onboarding.

Probation & Confirmation
Probation reviews are scheduled at mid-point and completion; confirmation letters are issued upon satisfactory review.

Ongoing Performance & Development
Annual appraisal, training plans and promotion pathways are supported by the Personnel Office.

Exit & Knowledge Transfer
Clearance, exit interview, and handover procedures ensure a smooth departure and capture improvement ideas.

Organisational Structure and Responsibilities

Deputy Registrar (Head, Personnel Office)
Provides strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement with the Senate and core committees, Human Resource policy oversight and performance reporting.

Administrative & Technical Unit
Handles recruitment and personnel matters for professional/technical non-academic staff.

Teaching Unit
Manages academic staff appointments, promotions, sabbaticals and research leave procedures.

Junior Staff Unit
Responsible for recruitment and welfare of junior/support staff and day-to-day task assignment.

Training & Development Unit
Designs learning strategy, manages training budgets, and coordinates delivery and evaluation.

All units coordinate closely with Deans, Directors, Bursary, ICT and campus services.
